Tutorials on manga techniques so far,,,

On this webpage there's a series of tutorials that I'm working on for loooads of the techniques manga artists use in their mangas. Below are the links to this webpage and also the links to the techniques I have done so far (plus a little preview of the commentaries that go with them ;D)

www.learn-to-draw-manga.com/learn-to-draw-manga-techniques.html

"The series of tutorials I will be adding on this page will solely focus on techniques used in actual manga comics. These tutorials will be of great help to you if you are writing your own manga...."

Lines in general:

www.learn-to-draw-manga.com/learn-to-draw-manga-lines.html

"Lines are used to create effects EVERYWHERE in manga. They usually run in one direction and change depending on the perspective or action of the object they are on. Here are a few examples of where..."

Sword motions:

www.learn-to-draw-manga.com/learn-to-draw-manga-sword-motions.html

"The first thing you will need to know is that the direction of the lines will always run in the same direction and stretch AWAY from the direction in which the sword is swinging in. So really it’s as if the sword is leaving a trail of lines behind it. Above I’ve given you an example of what...."

Sound effects:

www.learn-to-draw-manga.com/learn-to-draw-manga-soundfx.html

"As you can see from the image above, they're bold and stand out. When adding them to a picture you wouldn't really want them to be the main focus of the picture though, which is why you make sound effects either quite small or in the background. Louder sounds tend to have larger font such as DOOM and quieter sounds tend to have smaller....."

A little page about me on my site..

I recently added a page called "about me" on my site if you want to know my story. Click on the link below if you find the preview any interesting AT ALL ... xD

www.learn-to-draw-manga.com/learn-to-draw-manga-about-me.html

"Well, where can I start. I guess first of all I could say I've been drawing since the age of about 10. Well back then I wouldn't precisely call it drawing as the monsters I drew tended to look like a lamp covered in toilet roll with eyes (yes I'm being serious ¬¬). It wasn't until about the age of 16 that I was even half-good at drawing manga - from my own..."

How to draw perspective:

www.learn-to-draw-manga.com/learn-to-draw-manga-perspective.html

"Whenever you are drawing a background or scene, you need to take in several factors in terms of perspective. First, the objects that are in the background will be smaller than those in the foreground (obviously objects that are closer to you look larger). There’s also the fact that if an object starts at the back and is coming forwards (like a pipe etc.) it will appear to grow bigger as it comes closer. Below I have completed...."

How to draw grass:

www.learn--to-draw-manga.com/learn-to-draw-manga-grass.html

"To begin the tutorial I’ve drawn out 3 different looking strands of grass. "Drawing the anatomy is also quite hard and takes a lot of work to get anywhere near mastering it. First of all, there are many different types of styles out there for manga and the look of manga characters vary including their anatomy. The tutorials I have made (or are in the progress of being made) will teach you the basics and also the more complex features of the male and female anatomy that will give you the basic knowledge on anatomy. This will then allow you to improvise..."

How to draw male arms front view:

www.learn-to-draw-manga.com/learn-to-draw-manga-front-arm.html

"To start off with the arm you need to take in account the shapes that I have used above. Imagine the circles as the joints and the rest as the different parts of the arm. First, practice drawing the image above and try to get the lengths and sizes of the shapes correct. Once you have a drawing very similar to the one above move on..."

Drawing the ears: www.learn-to-draw-manga.com/learn-to-draw-manga-ears.html

"I believe that the easiest way to learn how to draw ears is to first get an idea of the basic structure of them. Above is the front view of an ear. Look at this and practice drawing it a few times, take a close look at the shape of the ear too as well as the shapes inside such as the ear lobe etc..."

Drawing the jaw: www.learn-to-draw-manga.com/learn-to-draw-manga-jaws.html

"The image above I have provided you with gives you the features and measurements you MUST get correct with a jaw. First of all you will have to get the length of each side the same, keep the angles the same (so it doesn’t look lopsided) and then if you’re adding a broader chin you must also keep that centred. As you can see above I’ve shown you an easy way to get this right..."

How to draw manga website!

My new website www.learn-to-draw-manga.com is up and it's targeting anyone at any level who wants to learn how to draw manga. Here's my intro for the Hompage of the site I'd advise you check it out ^^

Welcome to learn-to-draw-manga ! If you've ever wanted to learn how to draw manga / anime this site is perfect for you. This site has a series of tutorials I made to help ANYONE draw manga. Whether you can sketch up a ninja war in a matter of seconds or fail to draw a window, the tutorials on this site will give you a kick start on developing your manga-drawing skills. Get drawing straight away by clicking on one of the tutorials on the left side bar !

My name is Tomas and I am the creator of this site. From a young age the Japanese art of manga has always fascinated me and I've tried my hardest to bring myself up to the skill levels of the well known manga artists today. As a huge fan of Bleach , Naruto , Death note and more I began to dream of writing my own manga. The fact is I started, and I will not give up. Hopefully in the future I will be able to post my manga on this site and accomplish my dream. The whole reason for me telling you this story though is the fact that while I was creating and jotting down ideas for my manga I thought, what if there are other people out there with my dream but with no help on how to achieve it ? (obviously everyone isn't born a talented manga artist).

And no, I'm not going to stop babbling on about manga and dreams. While browsing through endless manga tutorials throughout Google and other search engines I will say I came across some good sites, but none matched the DETAIL and DEPTH I wanted them to go into. I wanted to know how to draw a nose not from only the side view, I wanted to learn how to draw one from ABOVE ! BELOW ! FROM 148.930 DEGREES ! Then there were backgrounds , buildings , even how to draw something as simple as rainfall ! Bushes , trees , rocks , clouds ! And much much more ! ... *straightens himself up* You're probably thinking I'm crazy right now but I insist please read on..

SO.

I decided to make this site to help inspire people and help those who need just that motivational boost to get that manga started !

Here's how it works :

Each link on the side bar gives you a general tutorial for the subject for example, drawing the head. Then within that tutorial there will be more in depth tutorials on how to draw the specific features of that subject, for example :

In Drawing the head :
There's
- Drawing the eyes - Drawing the Nose - Drawing the ears etc.

AND one more thing ..

If you ARE a beginner there's no need to worry, I have made these tutorials as easy as possible to follow. With step by step images to assist your practice, in no time you'll be able to draw up your own characters.
